About Us

Who we are, what we believe, and how we serve.

Our Mission

The K9 Jaeger Foundation exists to equip military veterans and first responders in need, empowering them to navigate day-to-day life through the help of trained service K9s. We believe that those who served our country and communities deserve a teammate who never quits — and we're here to make that happen, with as little red tape as possible.

Every service dog in our program is sourced from shelters and rescues. We use cooperative training and positive reinforcement methods — because the bond between handler and K9 is built on trust, not force.

K9JF Trainers

1099 Subcontractors

Independent professional trainers vetted by K9JF. They source candidate dogs from local shelters, train service dog teams using positive reinforcement methods, and determine graduation readiness.

Our Process

From application to graduation, here's how it works.

1

Application Submitted

Complete the K9JF Assistance Application through our website. We keep it simple and help you every step of the way.

2

Application Review

The K9JF Board reviews your application, documentation, and background check. We verify DD-214 (veterans) or department credentials (first responders).

3

Applicant Notification

Our Director contacts you with the board's decision and briefs you on next steps.

4

Trainer Assignment

We connect you with a K9JF-vetted trainer local to you. All our trainers are independent professionals who meet our positive reinforcement standards.

5

K9 Sourcing & Selection

Your trainer vets dogs at local shelters and rescues to find candidates. Dogs must be 9+ months, spayed/neutered, and current on vaccinations.

6

Client-Dog Pairing

You meet candidate dogs and, together with your trainer, find the right match for your needs and household.

7

Training Plan

A training plan with milestones is created and agreed upon by you, K9JF, and your trainer.

8

Active Training

You and your K9 train together with your trainer. Regular progress updates go to our Director.

9

Graduation

When your trainer determines your team is ready per ADA and state law standards, you graduate as an official Service Dog team.

10

Post-Graduation Support

K9JF's commitment doesn't end at graduation. We're here for you if your team needs additional support.

Our Training Philosophy

Cooperative Training

Handler and K9 train together as a team. Board-and-train is only used when the situation specifically calls for it.

Positive Reinforcement Only

No prong collars. No e-collars. No prods. We build the bond between handler and K9 through trust and positive methods.

Rescue Dogs

Every K9JF service dog comes from a shelter or rescue. We don't use breeders unless a donated dog fits. Different dogs are suited for different needs — our trainers find the right match.
